ARTIST PROFILE |
Kevin A. Somerville Certified Medical Illustrator Fellow, Association of Medical Illustrators
I'm self-employed and working from my home studio in coastal New England.
A Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude graduate of Duke University with undergraduate majors in Zoology and German, I then earned my Masters of Science degree in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia.
Before establishing my freelance business, I worked for both academic medical institutions as well as for a commercial enterprise in the continuing medical education market. My illustration clients run the gamut from publishers of medical journals and college-level texts in the biological sciences ... to advertising agencies servicing the medical/pharmaceutical industry.
The majority of my work is rendered in color ... using both the traditional media of airbrushed acrylics, colored pencils and detailed brush work, as well as digital software (primarily Photoshop). The subject matter ranges from straightforward macroscopic and cellular anatomy to more conceptual pieces depicting drug mechanisms-of-action or sub-microscopic molecular interactions.
I've garnered awards in the Association of Medical Illustrators' annual exhibit salon, as well as been selected to hang in regional and national juried shows sponsored by the Rx Club, The Society of Illustrators and numerous Art Directors Clubs. |
